Spain, a country in the Iberian Peninsula, has 17 autonomous regions with different cultures and regions. Spain is also known throughout the world for its flamenco music and dance, bullfights, beautiful beaches and the high sunshine. Here I have a list of the best places to visit in Spain.
Best places to visit in Spain
The resort island of Ibiza is one of the best vacation spots in Spain for couples. This is a short flight or a 5 to 6-hour car ride about 100 miles from the coast.
Ibiza is the largest of the Balearic Islands, a group of the main tourist islands of the Mediterranean. The other three main islands, Mallorca, Menorca and Formentera, are also popular places in Spain.
Ibiza is famous for its electronic music, beach parties and big discos. But there are also many family resorts and many fun activities to see and do with the children.
There is something interesting for everyone, and it is an excellent destination for couples, couples and families. Tourist attractions include Portinatx to the north, San Antonio to the west and Santa Eulalia to the east.
Extremadura got the position 2 in the list of Best places to visit in Spain. Because the region of Extremadura is located on the Portuguese border in southwest Spain, it is the most exciting tourist border in the country.
It is worth spending an afternoon in the regional capital, Mérida, and visiting the gigantic, carefully preserved Roman amphitheatre.
In Cáceres, where the protection of the historic centre of UNESCO is genuinely medieval, as many scenes of the King’s Landing show in “The Throne of the Swords”, much remains to be done. (King’s Landing is the imaginary capital of the Seven Kingdoms, where most of the show takes place).
The hills of the Jerte Valley, northeast of Plasencia, bloom every year from March 20 to April 10 with pink cherry blossoms, which makes spring the ideal time to visit the region.
Santiago de Compostela
Santiago de Compostela, the ancient city of northwestern Spain, is best known for its journey towards homosexuality, which ends here and is called the Saint-Jacques road. While the old tradition begins as a religious rite, many “pilgrims” undertake excursions to experience the excellence of nature and the camaraderie of other hikers.
The heart of the city is responsible for the Romanesque-Gothic cathedral of Botafumeiro, one of the most massive towers in the world. One of the holy days, visit the smoke sensor in the lobby.
When do you want to travel to Santiago de Compostela?
Santiago de Compostela is plagued by heavy rains during the cold summer months when the city is full of pilgrims celebrating the end of their long journey.
The second-largest city in Spain offers an entirely different travel experience than in Madrid. Its location on the coast gives the complex an atmosphere. It is completed with a warm and sunny climate to enjoy most days of the year.
It is located on the northeast coast of the country, near the Mediterranean, and seems to have a more modern and progressive atmosphere than Madrid and other Spanish cities.
The main attractions of Barcelona include the huge Sagrada Familia. There is also a modern cathedral and the Joan Miro Museum, designed by the famous artist before his death.
Among other attractions of Barcelona, you will find almost five kilometres of beaches and La Rambla, a pedestrian street. Here, the whole city seems to be walking.
In the list of Best places to visit in Spain, San Sebastian has number 4. This tourist city is located on the north coast of Spain, in the Basque Country. San Sebastián is located directly on the picturesque Bay of Biscay, which opens towards the Atlantic Ocean. It is a famous surf city with a surf scene on Zurriola beach.
Here you can spend time on the sandy beaches of La Concha or maybe climb Mount Orgullo, crowned by the fortress that dominates the old town.
Valencia is a port city with long maritime connections and Spain’s commerce with the world, especially Europe, the Middle East and Africa. It is located in the Mediterranean, on the southeast coast of the country. As a coastal city, you will enjoy beautiful beaches. Another place not to be desired is the Albufera Park, an area of wetlands on the beach with many hiking trails (and some beautiful beaches).
The city has many museums. The Museum of Fine Arts in Valencia, with an extensive collection of Spanish masters of artists such as El Greco and Goya, is particularly notable. There is also a massive Gothic cathedral in the medieval centre of the old city, as well as it has remnants of ancient walls, a fort and a prison.
I have placed Granada at position 6 in my list of best places to visit in Spain due to its some special qualities. Granada is another dynamic destination in southern Andalusia. It has the most incredible examples of Islamic architecture, including the Alhambra castle complex.
In the old Arab town of El Albaicín, there is a preserved neighbourhood with narrow streets and most of the same buildings from the 8th, 9th and 10th centuries.
There is an excellent university in Granada and a thriving modern culture in the world with delicious cuisine, tapas and music and flamenco dances.
Actual Spain is represented here with a detailed 16th-century cathedral that houses the tombs of King Ferdinand and Queen Elizabeth, united in the country.
Seville comes in a beautiful, fascinating city and one of the best places to visit in Spain. Seville is another example of the country’s vibrant history. It is a compact city, ideal for tourism, full of Roman ruins, Arab palaces and Gothic churches in the Castilian area (when Spanish kings and queens reigned).
Islamic history and culture are very productive since the city is under their control, the capital of the dominant Arab dynasty. It also flourished in the golden period of Spain between the fifteenth and eighteenth centuries, while it was the only officially authorized port for the exchange of Spanish colonies in the Americas.
